Is Rainbow Six Siege Shutting Down? No, R6 Mobile Is
Is Rainbow Six Siege shutting down? No. The game that is shutting down is Rainbow Six Mobile, a separate free-to-play spin-off for phones. Ubisoft announced on 8 October 2026 that Rainbow Six Mobile stays available until 15 January 2027 and then ends. Ubisoft has not announced an end of service for Rainbow Six Siege, and as of 5 November 2026 Siege is still running its current season, with hundreds of thousands of players online on PC alone.
The two games share a name, so headlines like "Ubisoft is shutting down Rainbow Six" spread fast and confused a lot of players. This page sets out what Ubisoft actually said, what it did not say, and what our own live data shows about Siege today.
What Ubisoft announced: Rainbow Six Mobile is shutting down
On 8 October 2026 the Rainbow Six Mobile team posted Rainbow Six Mobile Update – Message From the Devs on ubisoft.com. In short, the post says:
- Ubisoft has decided to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile.
- The game stays available until 15 January 2027.
- The next season would still launch the following week, as planned.
- More details to help players prepare for the shutdown would follow in the coming weeks.
The post is about Rainbow Six Mobile only. It does not mention Rainbow Six Siege.
Gaming news sites covered it the next day. Game Developer (9 October 2026) and Video Games Chronicle both report the same 15 January 2027 date and note that the mobile game had its global launch in February 2026, after a soft launch that started in 2023. That is why some headlines say it is closing "seven months after launch".
Why people think Siege is shutting down
A few things came together in October 2026:
- The same name. Rainbow Six Mobile and Rainbow Six Siege both carry the Rainbow Six brand. A headline that says "Ubisoft shuts down Rainbow Six" without the word "Mobile" reads like the main game is ending.
- Search interest. Google Trends showed searches for "is Rainbow Six Siege shutting down" rising sharply in October 2026, right after the mobile announcement, which suggests many people read the news as being about Siege.
- Earlier trouble. Siege had a rough moment in December 2025, when Ubisoft took the game offline after unauthorised credits appeared on player accounts. The game came back, but the R6 Marketplace stayed closed. Players who remember that are quicker to believe the worst.
None of that is an end-of-service notice for Siege. A shutdown of an online game is announced by the publisher, on its own channels, with a date. Rainbow Six Mobile got exactly that. Siege has not.
Rainbow Six Siege vs Rainbow Six Mobile
If you are not sure which game a news story is about, this table helps.
| Rainbow Six Siege | Rainbow Six Mobile | |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms | PC, PlayStation, Xbox | Phones (iOS and Android) |
| Released | December 2015 (first season in our data starts 1 Dec 2015) | Soft launch 2023, global launch February 2026 |
| Current status | Running season Y11S3 Operation Split Fire (started 1 Sep 2026) | Shutting down |
| End of service | None announced | 15 January 2027 (Ubisoft, 8 Oct 2026) |
| Tracked on SiegeRadar | Yes | No |
SiegeRadar only tracks Rainbow Six Siege. The mobile game has its own accounts and its own stats, and nothing about the mobile shutdown changes your Siege profile, rank or stats here.
Is Siege dead? What the player count shows
"Is Siege dead" is a different question from "is Siege shutting down", but the numbers answer both. SiegeRadar records Siege's player count about once an hour on the R6 player count page. Here is what it showed when we checked.
| Measure | Players | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| PC players online (5 Nov 2026, 04:18) | 201,483 | Steam live count + Ubisoft Connect estimate |
| On Steam at that moment | 49,676 | Live Steam count |
| On Ubisoft Connect at that moment | 151,807 | Estimate |
| 7-day peak (30 Oct – 5 Nov 2026) | 263,772 | PC only |
| 7-day low (30 Oct – 5 Nov 2026) | 144,293 | PC only |
| Monthly players | 15.2M | Estimate, PC + PlayStation + Xbox |
A few things to keep in mind when reading these numbers:
- The online count is PC only. PlayStation and Xbox do not publish live player counts, so console players are missing from the "online now" figure. The real number of people playing at any moment is higher.
- The Ubisoft Connect and monthly figures are estimates from the same data source we use for player stats. The Steam number is a live count.
- Counts swing through the day. The gap between the 7-day low and peak above is the normal daily rhythm: fewer players in the early hours, more in the evening and at weekends. One low reading does not mean the game is dying.
Our view, and it is only an opinion: a game with roughly 145,000 to 265,000 people online on PC in a normal week, plus everyone on console, is not dead. For the latest numbers and the full chart, open the live R6 player count rather than relying on the snapshot above.
Siege is still getting seasons and esports
Two more signs that Siege is an active game right now:
New seasons keep coming. Our seasons list holds 44 seasons from December 2015 to today. The current one, Y11S3 Operation Split Fire, started on 1 September 2026. According to the season data, it added a new shield-counter Operator, Noor, the new Legend Division for ranked, a 3v3 arcade mode, map updates for Villa and balancing changes. The two seasons before it, Y11S2 Operation System Override (2 June 2026) and Y11S1 Operation Silent Hunt, brought the Ranked 3.0 overhaul and Solid Snake. You can read more about the ranked changes in our guide to how R6 ranked works and look up any operator that was added or changed.
The pro scene is about to play a Major. The BLAST R6 Major Osaka 2026 runs from 6 to 15 November 2026 at ATC Hall in Osaka, Japan, with a play-in, a Swiss stage and single-elimination playoffs. You can pick winners for every match on our R6 Major predictions page.
None of this is a promise about the future. We are not guessing at what Ubisoft will do in 2027 or later. The point is simpler: as of 5 November 2026, there is no announced shutdown, and the game is being updated and played.
What happens to Rainbow Six Mobile players
If you play Rainbow Six Mobile, here is what Ubisoft has confirmed so far:
- The game keeps working until 15 January 2027.
- A new season was still scheduled after the announcement.
- Ubisoft said it would share more details "in the coming weeks" to help players with the transition.
The 8 October post says nothing about refunds, purchases or moving progress to another game. If you spent money in Rainbow Six Mobile, check Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Mobile news page and Ubisoft Support for official answers, and be careful with third-party sites that claim to offer refunds or account transfers.
Your Rainbow Six Mobile account is not linked to Siege stats on SiegeRadar, so you cannot carry mobile progress over by searching your name here.
How to check if Siege is down right now
Sometimes "is Siege shutting down" really means "why can't I get into a match today?". That is a server problem, not a shutdown. For that:
- Check our R6 server and tracker status page to see whether the game or the stats source is having problems.
- Look at the player count chart. A sudden drop to a very low number usually lines up with maintenance or an outage.
- Follow Ubisoft's own channels, such as the Rainbow Six Siege news page on ubisoft.com and the @Rainbow6Game account on X. A real shutdown, or a maintenance window, is announced there first.
If you want to see what your own account is doing this season, search your name on the home page or compare your numbers with the ranked leaderboard.
